We Thrive Together
Taiji practice at GLT is only a part of our rich and diverse community.
Our Taiji practitioners are artists, musicians, educators, and creators. Every individual is valued for their contribution in and out of class. We encourage everyone to bring their knowledge, experience, and their sense of humor to the group.
Great Lakes Taiji grew from the inspiration and instruction of Grand Master Hsu Fun Yuen in Chicago and from Sifu Elizabeth Wenscott at The Tai Chi Center of Chicago. Over the last several years, we have grown into our own unique and vibrant Chicago area group.
Great Lakes Taiji was originally based in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood. We remain rooted in the Ravenswood area, even as our classes have shifted to the Chicago Park District’s Hamlin Park Fieldhouse. Streaming classes simultaneously online has opened GLT to a larger community of like-minded enthusiasts.
Our summertime outdoor practice sessions in Welles Park in the heart of Lincoln Square help keep us connected to nature and the neighborhood in a green and vibrant setting.
Wherever we practice, whether in-person or online, a safe and supportive space is offered to all. Acceptance, understanding, and grace provide a strong foundation for learning at GLT.
